This type of circlips are designed for the securing of shafts. The production standard applicable to the manufacture of the circlips is DIN 471. The dimensions of the Seeger retaining ring are given by the diameter of the shaft. It is therefore not possible to determine the dimension of the Seeger retaining ring itself before measuring the shaft. It is possible to determine the dimension of the shaft for which the circlips are intended by measuring the internal edge of the circlip with the opposite external edge. The obtained dimension of the shaft for the circlip is an approximation only. A Seeger retaining ring is applied using Seeger pliers. It is necessary to extend the circlip and to pull it over the shaft and click the retaining ring into the groove in the shaft. The flexibility of the Seeger retaining ring ensures its compression in the groove which thereby secures the shaft itself or its rotating counterpart against movement over the Seeger retaining ring.
