Lifting eyes is a designation for anchoring receptacles with an increased level of load applicable.
GUFERO lifting eyes are equipped with a threaded connection for quick mounting or, where applicable, dismounting. Lifting eyes are zinc plated to give them an extended service life. After the lifting eye is fixed into position, it is possible to secure the burden in a few seconds and to lift the transported machine or load.
GUFERO lifting eyes are manufactured from heavy duty steel. This material for lifting eyes provides sufficient tensile strength and guarantees that the lifting eye does not come off. The surface of the lifting eyes is given a galvanized surface finish (zinc plate treatment). This surface treatment of the eye provides excellent resistance to weathering which if left untreated would reduce the service life of the eye. During manufacture, the contact surfaces of the lifting eye are processed to allow its easy application and to guarantee the fulfilment of its purpose.
The application of lifting eyes is subject to several conditions. The main condition for lifting eyes is the necessity to ensure permanent contact between the supporting surface of the lifting eye and the load or part to be lifted by the eye. Another important prerequisite for the lifting eye is the method of load application. The structure of the steel eye dictates that the only possible direction of load application is in line with the thread of the lifting eye. The application of load onto the sides of the lifting eye must be avoided because the load bearing capacity of the eye can be considerably reduced as a result.
Lifting eyes are used in all places where it is necessary to move various loads occasionally or more frequently. A large area of application for lifting eyes is in electric motors, especially high powered ones, where lifting eyes are favoured. Among other frequently used applications for lifting eyes are the suspension of loudspeakers on mobile platforms and the transport of sound equipment. The majority of applications for lifting eyes are found in heavy industry where they are required, for example, for the replacement of components in machines.
Eye screws are the most frequently used type of lifting eyes. Eye screws are manufactured according to the DIN 580 standard which provides the standard parameters for ensuring the required properties of the eye screw. The design of the eye screw is generally very simple. A frame providing contact with the lifted load is welded onto a basic steel eye. The eye screw with its metric thread and standardized pitch protrudes from the frame. GUFERO eye screws are supplied in the sizes M6 - M48. This means that we are able to find the exact size you need for your application. The eye screw (sometimes called lifting screw) is applied to the pre-prepared internal thread in the lifted load, or alternatively to attach the eye screw into a bore and to secure it with a nut.
Eye nuts are another type of lifting eye. Eye nuts are subject to the DIN 582 standard. This means that the eye nut meet standard dimensions and quality. The design of the eye nut (sometimes also called the lifting nut) is similar to that of the eye screw except that the frame containing the eye nut does not contain the eye screw but is equipped with a bore with an internal thread instead. The internal thread of the eye nut has a standardized pitch. Eye nuts are available in metric dimensions M6 - M36. Eye nuts are applied at the end of a threaded rod or a steel screw.
